What is Holistic Healthcare?
Holistic healthcare consists of therapies and modalities that are used to complement traditional medical care. It is also used as a preventative measure against the onset of physical symptoms and disease. The modalities used in holistic healthcare are based on the ideas that the body innately wants to be healthy, healing is a natural power, the body is a whole and all its parts are connected, and there is no separation of body, mind and spirit.
Holistic healthcare is rooted in treating the underlying causes of physical ailments and diseases and treating the person as a whole, it does not focus entirely on treating specific physical symptoms ( in fact I believe that many illnesses are related more to emotional and spiritual dysfunction, and physical symptoms are just a manifestation of those dysfunctions). In this way the person is brought back to a state of natural balance and healing.
Holistic healthcare acknowledges that treatment may come from OUTSIDE the body, but healing comes from WITHIN, and that symptoms of illness are not something "wrong" with the body, but they are the body trying to heal itself. It is also about trying to treat the symptoms of illness or disease in a way that is synergystic with the body.
Many people when they are ill or experiencing physical symptoms go to the doctor, get a prescription for medication, take it, and then don't think any more about it once the symptoms are gone. What most people don't realize is that medications are not natural, they are synthetic, chemicals, often made from only one or two constituents of an original plant. The body has no way of processing medications, it was not created to process chemicals, so they stay in the body, creating toxicity and being suppressed until they eventually manifest in an even worse physical condition than the original condition the medications were taken for.
Remedies that are natural and derived from plants however, have been around for thousands of years. The body was made to ingest plants and therefore knows how to eliminate the parts not needed, the body has been doing this for thousands of years. In this way there is no suppression of symptoms, using natural remedies brings the problem to the surface so that the body can deal with it and eliminate it, rather than just making the symptoms go away. I believe that it is also important to look at why the illness or disease came to be in the first place. What negative patterns, emotions or beliefs are present in a person that may allow this illness to manifest, and what can we do to transform those so that the disease is not suppressed but is dealt with emotionally or spiritually and eliminated. This, to me, is true healing.
It is my goal in my holistic practice, and my life, to help people understand that the mind, body and spirit are intricately linked, and that you cannot be healthy if these three areas are not functioning together synergistically. I hope to educate people about the very simple things they can do everyday to take charge of their health, maintain their health, and live a better life.
I hope that you enjoy browsing this website and that it provides a place for learning for you. The process of healing starts with taking responsibility for our own health. This means taking care of our physical, emotional and spiritual needs. There are times when we need the help of another to hold us in a safe place of healing with compassion and without judgement. This recognition is an important step in escalating your healing, and I would be honored to share in that experience with you.
